The problem is, I am prompted for my password by this component every 15 minutes, which is annoying (i.e. when watching video), disruptive (i.e. when trying to do work), and ultimately unacceptable.

    Go to Keychain Access. Lock your keychain. Unlock your keychain, you should get a prompt to unlock your Login keychain (which could be buried amoung the other pop ups). Enter your most recent password. You should then get a prompt to change your Local keychain password. Enter your previous password, then your your most recent password twice.
