Gentoo Forums :: View topic - Auto-login?

    https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-256432-highlight-auto+login+boot.html
    GDM has auto login capabilities... emerge gdm, and then run gdmconfig, make sure your /etc/rc.conf file has DISPLAYMANAGER="gdm". In order to start gdm just do. Code: /etc/init.d/xdm start. to start gdm, and do. Code: rc-update add xdm default. to get it to start at every boot. Hope that answered your question.

    Fond the answer to auto log in (Centos 6.2) to a system user Just edit /etc/gdm/custom.conf with your favourite editor. Then, under the [daemon] section, add 2 lines so it looks like the code below (obviously change username to the username you want to use) [daemon] AutomaticLoginEnable=true AutomaticLogin=username Regards, Luiz :-) rojacos

Auto-login without password (KDM) help - LinuxQuestions.org

    https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/debian-26/auto-login-without-password-kdm-help-4175519760/
    This would be an insecure idea. however it is possible. In KDE, go into System Settings, Login Screeen, then the Convenience tab. The section Enable Auto-Login allows you to select the user. You could also replace starting kdm in the boot process with sudo -u startx. Last edited by mpyusko; 09-23-2014 at 10:06 AM.

40020 - [PATCH] Add support for LightDM

    https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40020
    (It matters only for saving and loading autologin settings.) This patch will do two things: 1) When saving autologin settings, try to write to both GDM and LightDM config files, if they are available. 2) When loading autologin settings, try to determine which of GDM and LightDM are running and load from its respective config file.

    Basically, I just need it to launch firefox fullscreen, with no mess. I've been using GDM with a modified .xsession script (using metacity), and I added a user for GDM autologin. The problem is, if firefox crashes, then GDM goes to the login screen, for ten seconds while it waits for the autologin. Also, I can't get the screensaver to not run.

Compared with a live version of UbuntuGnome 13.10 which uses GDM 3.8 and notice how dependency libglib2.0-0 (> = 2.37.3) and libpam- systemd. They are only suppositions, but may be a path.
