- For the JK I wouldn't do portals. If you saw them on the new Mercedes, I'm with you, it's a cool setup. And Chrysler did try to sell them through Mopar performance, and ran them at Safari in 2012 on a jeep prototype. I believe the estimated cost for the axles and all the necessary accessories cost around 30,000$.

- Well lets see. 14K for portal axles. 20K for hemi swap. Initial cost of JK roughly 30K. Total 64K. That's a lot of coin and you still have a Wrangler. I think a more capable vehicle can be had for that kind of money, one that is not made out of plastic and has a paper thin hood I might add.

The benefit being you didn't need to regear, use a lift, or beef up your driveline at all to have added ground clearance and run huge tires. So there was a cost savings that somewhat offset the high buy in price of the portals.

- Portal Tek is out of business. The Lower 40 had standard axles. The Mopar Immortal that was shown last Moab has a set of Powerwagon axles under it that have been modified by Dynatrac with Axle Tech portal boxes. These axles are absolutely huge and in our opinion way too heavy for a JK, not to mention the extra foot in width.
