pam_securetty is a PAM module that allows root logins only if the user is logging in on a "secure" tty, as defined by the listing in /etc/securetty. pam_securetty also checks to make sure that /etc/securetty is a plain file and not world writable Ok, an empty /etc/securetty will disable root login from every terminal, this is not wanted by me.

VNC should be pretty safe to use if your tunneling it over ssh. This method will only work if you have an user logged in.

    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=207242
I think you should be able to enable auto login via your display manager. Try logging in 'manually' and navigate to the user account settings and select auto-login. Have you enabled 'lightdm.service' ? The service is enabled, otherwise it won't start lightdm at boot. And clicking auto-login in gnome makes no difference. Offline

You need XDMC only when log in remotely (graphically) and start a new VNC session this way; DM is part of the VNC session itself in this case, so the DM must be "VNC aware" and XDMC is to make it happen. 22-Sep-2019, 13:06 #4 gogalthorp Flux Capacitor Penguin Join Date Nov 2009 Location West Virginia Sector 13 Posts 16,292

Kali 2016.1 "light" root autologin - Kali Linux

    https://forums.kali.org/showthread.php?30021-Kali-2016-1-quot-light-quot-root-autologin
Hi, I have just installed a fresh version of KALI 2016.1 LIGHT, which uses XFCE as Desktop Manager instead of Gnome. I'd like to set autologin for ROOT in order to start automatically the graphical interface, avoiding to key in user/password at every boot. Looking around I found only instructions for setting root autologin for KALI+GNOME, but I found nothing for KALI+XFCE.
