After running through both steps what I see now is that I can login still with the keyboard and trackpad. I click on enter/submit, an "installation" bar displays below the password field and then my desktop displays. I thought it worked at first because I was able to use trackpad for about 10 secs and saw the pointer change sizes and blink.

My bluetooth mouse works. Don't have an external keyboard to test but I'd suspect it would work. Tried safe mode and keyboard and trackpad wont work there.

I have a MacBook Air. The mouse and keyboard work initially so that I can click my username, enter my password, and login. Upon successfully logging in however both become disabled. Initially, the computer would say it is searching for a bluetooth mouse and freeze up. I have a bluetooth mouse from another computer that I ended up using.
