No, openbox is just a window manager - it doesn't put icons on the screen, it doesn't come with panels. That's why pcmanfm and lapanel are included in LXDE 1 members found this post helpful.

Debian LXDE openbox with user list in the login screen

    https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/debian-lxde-openbox-with-user-list-in-the-login-screen-4175589612/
I chose in the Login Screen to use the LXDE desktop environment, even in this case. I could see a list of users (not drop menu), with picture (if they had any configured), and I would just. click the user name and type the password. changing the DE doesn't automatically change the display manager, afaik.

I have never used a login manager. I like keeping things separated, so I always have access to a console, with no gui failing and disallowing login. Either way you have to login unless you set things up without login. Login manager has never made any sense to me, just a middle man that will fail.

How to set default window manager to LXQt for auto login?

    https://forums.opensuse.org/showthread.php/517091-How-to-set-default-window-manager-to-LXQt-for-auto-login
In Startup and Shutdown -> Login Screen, under the Advanced tab, Auto Login was enabled with Session set to "Plasma 5". After setting Session to "LXQt Desktop", it now auto-logs in to LXQt at boot. It seems so simple now. I chose an Openbox DE at the time of login and the system took ages to load the DE. So I switched to CLI (Ctrl+Alt+F1) and rebooted my system (but I wanted to logout from the GUI and not restart the whole system). My question is, can I issue some command at CLI to log me out from the GUI so that I can select different DE.

Linux: Openbox in XFCE - Tux Review

    https://tuxreview.wordpress.com/2011/11/23/linux-openbox/
Openbox has two main configuration files: rc.xml and menu.xml. Both reside in ~/.config/openbox (~ meaning your home folder). Because I was using the window manager in xfce, the menu didn't matter much; xfce had its own menu. The rc.xml, though, gave me a whole bunch of sensible keybindings, and I found myself using keyboard shortcuts more often.
