AD Domain Login to ESXi Host - Permission to Perform this ...

    https://superuser.com/questions/1343925/ad-domain-login-to-esxi-host-permission-to-perform-this-operation-denied
I have vCenter managing several ESXi hosts in remote locations. Lockdown mode is not enabled. vCenter and the ESXi hosts are joined to our AD domain. Domain login for vCenter works fine. Privileges are assigned to children. If I try to login directly to the ESXi host's web client, I get the error: Permission to perform this operation was denied.

    https://communities.vmware.com/t5/VI-VMware-ESX-3-5-Discussions/Permission-to-perform-this-operation-was-denied/td-p/1031278
It was working fine for 3-4 days last week. Came in after the weekend and I can no longer login -- I get the Permission to perform this operation was denied. Since we don't have any live servers configured, I restarted the server. Still no luck. I created some other users that work fine. 0 Kudos Share Reply lettech Enthusiast 11-29-2006 06:45 AM

[SOLVED] Can't log into ESXi host via web client

    https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/2045709-can-t-log-into-esxi-host-via-web-client
I believe this is because when I transferred my hosts over to the new vCenter, I chose "normal" for the access mode (or whatever it's called), which I think means I can't ssh to my ESXi hosts and that I actually need to go to the server itself. I've been looking for the setting to change for a while now, and I can't seem to find it.

I would suggest as a first step to check if this is indeed the case, by going to vSphere Web Client > Administration > Access Control > Roles The next step would be to check vCenter server logs for additional clues about the error.

ESXi 6.x root Account Locked Out– root User Access Denied

    https://www.usmanghani.co/esxi-6-x-root-account-locked-out/
In every latest version of vSphere ESXi, VMware is trying to tighten the security of ESXi. Recently, I faced an issue that I was unable to log in on ESXi using SSH after multiple wrong password attempts to root account from my colleague. However, I was able to login using DUCI (Direct User Console Interface).

I have seen this error posted on several forums and they all say the same thing - I'm local admin on the converter server, UAC is off, running as admin and port 902 is allowed through the firewall.

ESXI 7 Unable To Login As Root - Server Fault

    https://serverfault.com/questions/1025096/esxi-7-unable-to-login-as-root
So I found out that you first need to enable the ESXI shell, and then press alt f1 . So with pam_tally2 --user root I can see attempts I make in the Web Client fail. This makes no sense, as I am using the same password. I've tried copy-pasting it, typing it in on a virtual keyboard, and so on.
