The solution is to put the ESX host in maintenance mode, enter engineering mode on the VNX, and deregister all logged in initiators for that host. Next, do a rescan on the host (which will not work because the deregistration removed the host from the Storage Group) to let the host register at the VNX, and add the newly registerred host to the ...

Host Initiators Showing Warnings on VNX - TechGenix

    https://techgenix.com/host-initiators-showing-warnings-vnx/
May 24, 2017. Today I was working with a customer who was getting errors next to his host initiators on an EMC VNX storage array. They were the little yellow warning signs that usually indicate a server has not been added to a storage group yet (after it's been registered). However, in this case, the servers had been added to a storage group.

Here are explaining about how we can register the host manually to EMC VNX storage system. Note: If the host is not powered on ,we will not see it in our hosts available. Most scenario host would be probably first connected and either auto-registered with Host Agent or Unisphere Server Utility (or similar software), or we would have to manually register the host.

Ensure that an initiator group exists in VNX for each VIOS. For each VIOS, the initiator group must be created for at least one WWPN with Logged in set to yes and Registered set to no. Initiator groups are created automatically after the server is connected to the switch and storage device. Alternatively, you can create it manually.

For example purposes the config below will have the RPA1-port-3 Zoned to the VNX SP-A&B Port 4 on Fabric-A and RPA1-port-1 Zoned to the VNX SP-A&B Port 5 on Fabric-B. Note: In a synchronous RP solution all 4 RPA ports should be zoned.

I manually edited the initiators in the Connectivity Status window so that all the paths were linked to the same host, thinking perhaps that would resolve the problem, but it didn't help. So, thinking that perhaps de-registering and re-registering the initiators might help, I enabled engineering mode in Navisphere so I could do just that.

In very large SAN configurations, (such as 150 host initiators per SP port and 64 RecoverPoint initiators), not all of the host initiators log back in to the VNX after a Cisco MDS-9148 switch is rebooted. VNX fabric discovery queries slow down the switch CPU to the point where its name server cannot answer all requests.
