Should Pontoons Have Water in Them? (How to Know & Fix ...

    https://watercraft101.com/should-pontoons-have-water-in-them/
Pontoons shouldn't have water in the logs. Water in a pontoon log compromises buoyancy, leading to tilting, which significantly compromises steering. This prevents navigation to shore, making the situation even more dangerous. Additionally, the vessel may be inoperable if water reaches the engine compartment.

Get a spray bottle and use water/dish soap, put @3-4psi in the tube and spray away. Look closely at the inside back of the rear bracket, this is a stress point and where alot of leaks are, look above the water line too, water splashes everrywhere underway and can get in leaks on top of the tube. Mark all the leaks and fins a welder to repair them.

Hi, I have a 1995 Fisher pontoon w/ hollow logs. One of my toons has got a pretty good amount of water in it (Im guessing 2-3 gals) but I don't think I have any leaks because when I took the plug out of the top, there was pressure that released.

Re: Water in Pontoons. Linda: Flashback is on the right track; you need to locate the hole or holes first. I had two previous pontoon boats that developed leaks in the logs. These were aluminum hollow logs welded together in sections. Each section had a ½ inch nipple welded on top with a plug screwed in to make them water tight.

Very good chance there is a drain at the rear of the log. As these get welded at the factory the actual weld creates heat. Which creates pressure. If you don't let the pressure escape the last few inches of weld as the log seals is damn near impossible. Your weld puddle will blow out Looking Glass, OLDRAAT, RogerThat99 and 1 other person

Water in Pontoons

Check them again in a month and see what is in them. The water you got out could be what has accumulated for a long long time. Look to see if you have vents on the top of the logs. Mine has 3/8 aluminum tubing bent into an upside down J to vent the tubes. I could see heavy wind blown rain finding it's way through that J in to the tube.

Water in pontoons — Godfrey Pontoon Forum

If there is a LOT of water in the tubes then they will need to be inspected for leaks. Typically this should be done by a Godfrey dealer. They will apply soapy water on the welds and put about 5lbs air pressure into the tubes. If the one of the welds produces a bubble, they have found a leak. lovetoboat Member Posts: 21 March 2016

15 Common Problems With Pontoon Boats (With Examples)

    https://www.godownsize.com/pontoon-boat-problems/
Setting your pontoon logs on the lake bottom during periods of low water can cause your pontoon logs to become "pitted" with corrosion. This is because the mud prevents dissolved oxygen in the water from being in contact with the aluminum. The aluminum of the tubes can then corrode without the oxidization protection.

What Is Inside a Pontoon Tube? - The Pontoon Site

    https://www.thepontoonsite.com/what-is-inside-a-pontoon-tube/
Opening a drain plug on a pontoon tube and hearing air escape is a very good sign as it shows there are no leaks in the pontoon. Obviously this can only be done once, unless the boat owner replaces the air in the tube. This is more often than not a bad idea. It is all too easy to damage a pontoon tube by over-pressurizing it.

Fill small punctures with putty, according to its directions. Allow the putty to cure, then sand it to smooth. For areas with pinholes, mix putty with prepared epoxy sealer to a rollable consistency, and then roll and/or brush it to cover the area. Wait for the putty and epoxy to dry. Sand it to roughen the surface slightly.

Do Pontoon Boats Have Drain Plugs? (Plus How to Install ...

    https://www.pontooners.com/do-pontoon-boats-have-drain-plugs/
The older style of pontoon boat (which was made of aluminum) is still susceptible to water getting into the log. This is why older boats will typically have drain plugs already on them. It seems as though most leaking was caused as a result of the weld of the joints in the logs starting to corrode and eventually giving out.

The only real drawback to this design is should there be water infiltration into the pontoon. The only way to remove or drain it is through a usually small plug at the top of the individual affected chamber usually by siphoning though small hose. It is a slow cumbersome process should a substantial amount of water be involved.
