Right click on the "start button". then hover over the sign off (?) option - should be second option from the bottom of the pop up menu - in the slide out window select Disconnect.

    I had the exact same thing: just run my usual "apt update/apt upgrade", which changed XRDP and a few other things (with a pause asking about sesman.ini) after which XRDP wouldn't or couldn't let me log in. Sure, we could troubleshoot the situation, but switching to XFCE4 got things up and running again immediately.

    You should see both xrdp and xrdp-sesman. You are using the selection Xorg, so check the Xorg in xrdp.ini. Should be libxup.so library, ip=127.0.0.1 port=-1 then check the Xorg section in sesman.ini these are the parameters passed to Xorg.
